I saw his sunken in eyes after taking a closer look. Before that I thought about a soulless person in a modern world, being offered a lot of stuff that is all just the same. Even having an idea is given by others. And below there is the demon feeding us...
After I found the eyes the soulless person became a hidden mind to me that hides in a body consuming what is offered.

In my room I saw a shadow that was turned into a snakelike creature similar to those in your painting. And it came closer to me and went back again, going forth and back again and again. I was staring at it all the time, just as fearful as your character, until the day lighted my room enough for me to see that it was just a shadow from my desk...
